A fan of skiing, snowboarding or just beautiful views and fresh air? This means that Zakopane is probably the place to visit. It’s a town situated just 2 hours away from Kraków that attracts those who need a getaway from the city’s maze or just want to see more of what Poland has to offer. Set among the Tatra Mountains it is perfect even for a short one day visit.
Out of all slopes avaliable for sport enhusiasts one comes to mind as the most spectacular and long-distance. It’s situated on almost 2000 meters high peak called Kasprowy Wierch. To get there you can walk up the mountain for around 2 hours or take a cable car that will take you directly to the chairlift with a stunning view on the way.
If you are more of a walker you can take a 3 hours rout that will lead you to a splendit lake called Morskie Oko. It’s the largest lake in the Tatra Mountains and it is also located deep within the Tatra National Park. Surrounded by many peaks including the highest in Poland (Rysy) it is a must see in the park area. Wall Street Journal named it one of 5 most beautiful lakes in the world.
Amongst all attractions that nature has to offer let’s not forget about the town itself! Krupówki is the name of a main street in Zakopane. Here you can find the best restaurants, many shops with souvenirs, hand made local products or… take a picture with a bear:) It is one of the most popular promenades in Poland that attracts thousands of tourists every year. Worth seeing is deffinately a Museum of Zakopane Style – devoted to unique and ultimate architectural style, characteristic for this area.
And the best is for the end… Do you know what “oscypek” is? It is a smoked cheese made of salted sheep milk that you can find exclusivly in the Tatra Mountains. Try one with cranberries! It’s delicious!
